Our Story
Helena and Erik met in South Sudan while working for MSF (Doctors without Borders). While managing patients at the hospital, organizing the team's medication supply, and cooking together, it became clear that they worked exceptionally well as a team. Realizing their paths would never cross again if she kept her feelings to herself, Helena professed her love for Erik on their fourth day together. Erik was both flattered and terrified. Yet, he had also started to fall in love with her. Days later, Erik flew home to Germany. They wondered if they would see each other again.
During the following months, they kept their mutual affection alive with Facetime calls, Whatsapp messages, and a couple of in-person encounters. Finally, after Helena completed her MSF assignment, she flew to Munich to spend the summer with Erik. Living together that summer confirmed their initial feelings.
Fast forward one full year, Helena completed her fellowship in California and moved to Germany. Erik proposed in the Italian Dolomites after a long hike, which Helena survived despite being seven months pregnant. Last November, she gave birth to their baby boy Gabriel, or "Baby G". They know their timeline is out of order and unconventional, but would not have it any other way. They are beyond excited for the next step, which they will get to share with you: their wedding!
